I don't understand the 'in'

I heard this sentence.
Is it correct and if so why is 'in' used?
He did say in talking to you that you were the best.

Thanks

'In' is fine. It's idiomatic, as all prepositions commonly are. Think of it as eg ' in the course of talking'.
