I don't understand one sentence. Could you please help me?

I don't understand following sentence.

"Holy Thursday pitch" was put out on tables in memory of the torches in the garden of Gethsemane.

I don't know what "pitch" and "the torches" mean in this context.

Could you please help me?

Thank you in advance for your help.

A pitch often is a campaign for or against something. Torches often appear in artwork depicting Christ's betrayal by Judas in the Garden of Gethsemane, because it was night and presumably dark. I'm not sure this will help, but I hope it does.

One meaning of pitch is a form of tar.
Torches are commonly dipped in pitch to make them burn brightly for a long time.
