I don't suppose anything happens

Hi,

Is this a correct sentence: "I don't suppose anything happens that he doesn't foresee."?

I think it's very odd. Is it grammatically correct? How would you analyze its structure?

I would suggest it is like this:

"I" - the subject,

"don't suppose" - the verb or predicate,

"anything happens" - a clause acting as the object of the verb.

"that he doesn't foresee" - a relative clause which refers back to "anything".

Having said that, I think it is a wrong sentence.

I would rephrase the sentence and make it like this:

I don't suppose that he doesn't foresee anything that will happen.

What do you think?

Thank you very much.

There's nothing wrong with this sentence: I don't suppose [anything happens [that he doesn't foresee]]. The matrix (main) clause is analysed as: Subject: "I" Predicate verb phrase: "don't suppose anything happens that he doesn't foresee". Subordinate clause: "anything happens that he doesn't foresee" functioning as complement of "suppose".
