I don't smoke anymore since...

I have found this sentence on a website:

'I don't smoke anymore since quite recently'

and it confuses me. The meaning is clear but I wonder if it sounds natural and/ or correct. Can I have your opinion on that?

Besides, a student today has said 'I live in XXXX since 2004' and I was tempted to let her notice that 'I have lived in XXXX since 2004' is more correct but then I stopped because of the sentence above, at the beginning of this post...
Could you please clarify if it is possible to use 'present simple + since'??

diotima 'I don't smoke anymore since quite recently' Not good. Standard English is I have quit smoking quite recently or I have just recently quit smoking. diotima 'I live in XXXX since 2004' Also not good.

Not good. Standard English is I have quit smoking quite recently or I have just recently quit smoking.
