Hi!

I don’t know what I wouldn’t sooner have had happen.

*******

This is very difficult to understand for me.

What would this sentence mean?

Some one has an idea?

Would sooner is an idiom: to prefer to: I would sooner not go to their party. It is saying that she is undecided about something that happened in the past: what she preferred to have occurred instead.

Good example of a pleonastic negative. Ignore the "n't".

I don't know what I would prefer to have happened.

I don’t know what I wouldn’t sooner have had happen.

Shouldn't it be "happened"?

Thanks,

No.

To have something happen. / To have had something happen.

To have someone fix something. / To have had someone fix something.

To have someone check your work. / To have had someone check you work.

To have something fly past you. / To have had something fly past you.

Today, looking for the clue to the phrase again, I've come back to this again...

But still, it's vague to me...

Does it mean that she is wondering what she should have done?

I don't know what (action / event) I would have preferred to see happen.

Something happened. I don't think I liked it. But what was the alternative? Maybe something else could have happened instead. But maybe I would not have liked that alternative either. I can't decide if I wanted one thing to happen or something else
