I don´t understand this explanation

My book explains this:

number + - + noun

Numbers can be added to nouns to make adjectives
a nine-hour flight
a five-kilometer walk
a hundred-dollar suitcase

I don´t understand what is this and how´s its use.

Hi Hector, These are called compound adjectives which are made up with 2 or more words. e. A 5-course dinner, a red-stripe jacket, a two-man job and 7-day vacation.

These are called compound adjectives which are made up with 2 or more words.

i.e.

A 5-course dinner, a red-stripe jacket, a two-man job and 7-day vacation. All nouns take the singular form when used as compound adjectives.
