I dnt get the meaning

Hello.

There is a sentence:

"I heard the hooing and gurgling of a water-bottle bird."

What is a wate-bottle bird?

since that context is about Africa I cannot imagine it is about a bird in a cage who dreams from a water bottle.

can it be the name of a kind of bird?

I also don't get what "hooing" and "gurgling" sound like.

thank you

litmom can it be the name of a kind of bird? Yes. Apparently it is a common name for the white-browed coucal, so named because its bubbly call sounds like water being poured out of a bottle.

"hooing" seems imitative of making a sound like "hoo!". "gurgl
