"I didn't think you need it so I took it" or "I didn't think you needed it so I took it"

1-"I didn't think you need it so I took it"

2-"I didn't think you needed it so I took it"

Which is correct? It bugs me when I don't know the parts of speech of a sentence. It's not important, but it still bugs me. I don't know why! Can someone point out the parts of speech too especially "you needed it"?
