0Both work here because this is something which is always true of pandas.02br

New2grammarHow about "I didn't know he is/was gay"?

"I didn't know he is gay"; 'is' emphasizes the fact that he is gay.

"I didn't know he was gay" is also correct; didn't know and was (both past tense).

I was told to treat the verbs "know, think, feel?" differently in the sense that the verb following the past tense of any of these verbs must be in past tense too. Kooyen,if you happen to read this thread, could you give us your opinion? Thanks in advance

It's always a safe bet to maintain concordence between the two verbs whatever the principal verb.

I would never have noticed this thread if someone hadn't told me about it, LOL.

Hi,
I didn't know pandas [eat/ate] bamboos.

Are both choices correct? Yes, as already explained.

However, note that only Past Tense works here. I didn't know dinosaurs ate bamboos.

Best wishes, Clive
