Grammar

I did myself in () running all the way up the street.

1. I did myself in running all the way up the street.
2. I did myself in (in) running all the way up the street.
3. I did myself in (after) running all the way up the street.

I saw #1 in my reference book for major verbs.
I'd like to know as which one I can interpret #1?#2 or #3.
Thank you in advance for your help.

The most apt preposition seems to me to be "by". #1 is potentially hard to parse. I'm not sure if a comma would improve it: I did myself in, running all the way up the street.
