Essay & Composition Writing

I detect a problem with teachers thesis!

Ok so im writing an essay. A large 2 part essay on great expectations.

For the second thesis which the teacher has provided is as follows:

Dickens uses character comedy, situational comedy, and social satire to suggest the ignominies and injustices of victorian society."

Now we're sposed to reword it to make it better, but in doing this and looking up the subject i found a prohlem. Is social satire not the same exact thing as "suggesting the ignominies and injustices of victorian society" is that not what social satire is? So how can social satire be a paragraph descrbing social satire.

I can see that Situational comedy and character comedy help to convey social satire, but how can social satire support the thesis when the thesis sentance basically IS social satire.

Hi Anon: Satire is a literary device - using irony, ridicule, etc. used to poke fun at people, their attitudes and mistakes. Political satire is quite common these days.
