'I choked myself'

Hi all

What does 'I choked myself' mean? Does it mean you made something bad happen to youself?

Also, can you say 'I choked' to mean you choked on something without mentioning what it was?

Thanks

I need context, PBF, for your first question. You can use 'choke' intransitively, though.

Thank you for your reply, MM.

I can't recall the context of 'I chocked myself' off the top of my head but I will bring this up again the next time I hear it being said. Thanks.

This just popped up in my mind. When people say 'I choked on myself', does that mean they choked even though they weren't eating or drinking anything?

Sorry, PBF, but 'I choked on myself' carries no meaning at all for me.

Thanks for the follow-up MM.

On second thought, I don't think it's quite possible that we could choke in that fashion at all. Maybe I was thinking about something else.

In that case, just to make sure I get this completely, 'I choked on my water' would be fine right?

Thank you

Well, yes, but more likely 'I choked on a fish bone'.

Thanks for replying MM.

Would 'I choked on my water' be a natural thing to say if you heard some incredible news whilst you were drinking water?

Thanks again
