I cannot help but to / but ?

I cannot help but to ask the question. VS. I cannot help but ask the question.

I think both of them are the same and "to" is omitted sometimes but I am not sure. What do you native English speakers think? Thank you so much as always.

Hi, I always hear this without the 'to'. Including 'to' does not sound good to me. Clive
