I cannot eat hot food

Could you make this paragraph more natural for me please?

I cannot eat hot food. It will burn my tongue but generally I can eat bit by bit because that will make me less spicy before the next bite. I live in a city where people like hot food but because my parents never cooked anything hot for me so I am not used to it. So whenever I go out for eating, I need to make a note to the server about my preference.

I can't eat hot (as in jalapeño pepper) food. My tongue gets burned by it. But if I do have some in front of me, I eat it slowly, bit by bit, so that my mouth get acclimated to it.

  • There's a lot of food like this in the city where I live, and a lot of people here like it, but, growing up, I never ate it at home, so I'm not used to it.
  • When I eat out, I ask for mildest seasoning, whenever possible.
