Hi
In South India, we use the word "tiffin" a lot.. it often refers to evening snacks (which go with tea) or meals (like breakfast and/ or dinner) that do not include rice!
I am not sure if this word is used by native speakers... because I can't remember a single English movie where this word was used!
So, if I want to say - I bought tiffin from the Railway canteen., would it be correct?
Please help.
Thank you
tiffin used to be a relatively common word in England, but it has been archaic for a long time. The word was used by English military society in what was known in India as the Raj. I think it was eventually replaced by 'afternoon tea', which eventually became simply a light meal called 'tea'.
