What is the difference between two sentences?

1) I believe you

2) I believe in you

Are "trust in" and "trust" in the same case?
Here are what I think I don't know whether they are right or not.
I trust/believe in the religion. (I believe the region can bail me out of the difficult situation)
I trust/believe in you. (I believe you will pass the exam with flying colours)
I trust/believe in my car.(I believe my car is powerful enough to move for more than 10 hours
