"I am wondering" vs "I was wondering"

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone could tell me the difference between:

A. I am wondering
B. I was wondering

I understand that one is in past tense and one is in present, but other than that can someone point me in the right direction where I could find the information.

Thanks for all your help.
