An emphasis lies on "only" along with the "amused", and it is used to say you do not have the opposite reaction (particularly useful when the opposite reaction is likely or more likely). Here the reaction "amused" means you think the matter in question (scientists and artists not appreciating each other) is foolish, childish or one arising from ignorance etc, but it doesn't worry you. The alternative being excluded is 'shocked', 'annoyed', 'worried' etc (generally emotions of concern/worry).
