I am not playing on my computer when my younger sister is sleeping.

Hello teachers.

You have always helped me with, for me, the hardest things to understand and therefore I have a special question for you.

- I am not playing on the computer when my younger sister is sleeping.

- I am often playing Call of Duty when my sister sleeps.

- I am never playing on my sisters computer when she is at home.

I know there are plenty of different ways to say it 100% correctly. Originally I asked my teacher to help me with this but she said it needed a special context to make it sounds right. Unfortunately she couldn't remember exact example of a sentence which would be correct. In the end she recommended that I ask you, native speakers, on this topic. Would it be possible to create context where these sentences would fit please?

Thank you very much!

  • You want to emphasize the long duration of playing on the computer, so you might say: Dominik6 - I am often playing Call of Duty when my sister sleeps.
  • Note, however, that the present simple is the usual tense for regular/habitual actions.

Thank you for the examples.

I just slightly don't understand the first example. I can use present continuous because I am indignant? Please, what allows me to do so?

As you already recommended it is usual to use normal tenses in this case. I may be a stupid question but....do you think that my English will not be that perfect one day if I don't learn how to use pres. cont. in su

Yes. If you write sentences that are very unusual because you're making up random combinations, then even if they could be correct in some crazy situation, they are mostly not worth worrying about. It's better to write what you mean. In

Haha! Yes, exactly! So I will write down those three original sentences just to know that it exists however I shouldn't use them as there are safer (more common) ways to say almost the same.
