I am not following you VS I did not get you

Could some one clarify the difference between

I am not following you and I did not get you.

It may depend on the area you live in. I don't say "I did not get you". "I'm not following you" means that I don't understand what you're saying, particularly from the point of view of understanding the logic of the argument that you are presenting.

If I didn't pay attention to what the other guy was saying, could you please let know how to request the other guy to repeat it for me? (Is there a better way of asking instead of "I didn't get you")
