I am much different.

I am much different.

Is it okay for much to modify adjectives? But I have learned that very, not much can modify adjectives like "I am very happy." and much just can be used for emphasis in comparatives like "I am much smarter." or only different is an exception?

'Different' is not different. You can't use 'much' before it.
