I am late & I was late

Dear everyone,

I am a Chinese, and I can not speak english well, but I like English, here I have some questions about English that I want to ask you. Thanks for your help and your support at first.

Sometimes, I don't know how to use Past tense and Now tense. Please see the following sentences:

1. I am late & I was late & I was/am forget/gorgot this things that......

I don't what situation will I use above sentense.

i think "i am late" is widely used...

and "i forgot" is also the same...everyone says like that..
