I am going to lunch

Hi,

When you want to have lunch and you want let other people; friends, for example, know that you are going to have lunch, as far as I know, you would probably say " I am going to lunch". My question here is can you also say " I am going lunch" or "I am going for lunch".

Thanks in advance.

Hi guys,

I am going for lunch sounds fine to me.

Plese note that you are a victim of the semi-colon virus. It causes people to use semi-colons in the wrong place, and in sentences where they are not really appropriate. (ha-ha) The cure is to replace it with a comma. You can also remove the comma after friends.

Best wishes, Clive

I don't understand you thinking. If you can say "I'm breaking for lunch", why not"going for"?

Here (in parentheses) are the associations I have with the different versions. I'm not saying these are the only meanings or the "corrrect" meanings, just the way I would be most likely to use the different phrases myself.

"I'm going to lunch." (I'm leaving my desk for my official lunch break -- maybe I'm going to eat in a restaurant, maybe in the office lunchroom, maybe I'm just going
