I am finished

I am finished.

Can I use it instead of ‘I am done’?

I feel like ‘I am finished’ is unnatural and it sounds like My life ended.

What do you native English speakers think?

Thank you so much as usual.

Yes, people say "I am finished" to mean about the same as "I have finished", i.e. to indicate that they have completed a task. In speech it would most often be "I'm finished" though. "I'm / I am finished" can also have the drastic meaning like "I'm doomed" as you mention.
