I am finished

I hear people saying "I am finished" when they actually
mean "I have finished". Is it correct to say that?
I feel that it's a strange sentence.
It seems to imply "I am finished (by somebody or something)"
Thanks.

It means "I am finished" shouldn't be used in the following context:

A bank teller helped a customer deposit money into an account.
After some time, the customer asked, "Am I finished?"

I do hear native English speakers saying that.
Is it wrong to say so? Thanks.

"I am finished" is certainly in common use, which means it is able to be used acceptably in nearly any correspondence.

"Are you finished with that?"
"I am"
