I am curious about "much"

Here is a question from my English text book and I think it is wrong please check it.

Some people think that having much money is the ultimate goal in life. Do you agree or disagree?

I do not know exactly but somehow much does not sound alright, I think more money or a lot of money is usable. Please tell me the reason specifically.

It sounds odd because native speakers seldom use 'much' as a simple quantifier in affirmative statements: Do you have much money? -- OK I don't have much money. - - OK I have a lot of (not 'much') money.

  • Strangely, this is fine: I have that much money.
