I am confused : which is correct? what is a ROW?

I don't know if this makes any sense to you, I don't know if I would have to draw it out.

Can rows be both horiztonal and vertical. Does a row go from left to right or from closest to you to furthest to you?
A row is a line of things next to each other, like people standing next to each other form a row, what is 10 people standing behind you called? Is that a row too?

Could you tell me how to say the bold I've tried to explain what the situation is?

I have 2 different sized glasses. (small sized and large sized) I have 2 rows with each sized glassed behind the same sized glass all expect for 3 glasses because I had more of one size than the other. If there is a small sized glass at the front then automatically I put a small sized glass behind it, if there was a large sized glass, I put a large sized glass behind it, all except for 3 rows??? when I no longer had small ones so I put large one behind small ones.

I have 2 different sized glasses. I have 2 rows with each sized glassed behind the same sized glass expect for 3 glasses

*I have 2 different sized glasses. All but 3 glasses had the same sized glass behind them.*

Thank you so much

  • If you are referring to glasses for the eyes, they don't normally come in large, medium and small like most clothing in the store, and I'd like to see if anyone understands your sentence.

Context would have us presume they are drinking glasses; we seldom have enough eyeglasses to put them in ranks and rows.

I have a row of large glasses and a row of small glasses plus 3 extra large ones in the small row.

From the original context, it sounded like something an eyewear store sales person would say. That's how I perceived it.

I use 'pairs (of glasses)' as the plural of '(a pair of) glasses'.

I am talking about drinking glasses.

When things are placed side by side , it is called a row? so it's 2 row of 13 glasses each right?
What about one behind the other? What is that called. so it's 13 rows of 2 glasses each??

Let me draw it out

SG SG LG SG LG LG LG SG LG SG LG LG LG ROW 2
SG SG LG SG LG LG LG SG LG SG

It's two rows of 13 glasses. If they were vertical, they'd be columns.
It's just two rows, one behind the other. not 13 rows of two glasses.

Small glasses are behind small glasses and large glasses are behind large glasses, except for the six at the right-hand end of the shelf, where three large glasses are behind (three) small glasses.
