I am confused about when we use "the". please help me:)

why in this sentence " accepting the equal numbers of students....", "the" was not used although a phrase" numbers of students"I had used before in my essay.

Top answer

The phrase, "accepting the equal numbers of students", would be unusual, and I cannot think of a situation where it could be used. The following, for example, would be correct (US usage): The college is accepting equal numbers of students from private and public schools.
