Is it correct to say "I am" in the 2nd part of this sentence?

I am working on a project, and I am in need of additional supplies.

Or

I am working on a project, and I need additional supplies.

Both seem ok to me, but, I dont think you need to say Iam twice.

Iam working on a project and need additional supplies.
