I always was fine OR I was always fine

Hi,
I told one of my students that I always was fine doesn't work. She has to write I was always fine. Now She wants to know the rule, since she can write: I never was fine. If she wants to emphasize the never. Is there a rule to that?

Hi, There is no rule. It's just a matter of how it is commonly done, which is the way you told her to. Clive
