Hyphens

I've seen it done both ways so I come here for help.

Do I use the hyphen(s) for the term "ever-so-slight" when it's an adjective?

For instance: "the ever-so-slight" chance?

Top answer

When it is used before a noun, yes. When used predicatively, no. an ever-so-slight chance the chance was ever so slight
