Hyphenated word?

In this medical transcription, is left hemispheric hyphenated?

Status post left hemispheric cerebrovascular accident with the start of mild right hemiparesis.

Top answer

I would not hyphenate left hemispheric, just as I would not hyphenate right hemiparesis. I would, however, use a hyphen if I were to write left-hemisphere, as in: a left-hemisphere stroke (or left-hemisphere cardiovascular accident). I would also use a hyphen if I were to write "right-sided hemiparesis".

  • I would not hyphenate left hemispheric, just as I would not hyphenate right hemiparesis.

  • I would also use a hyphen if I were to write "right-sided hemiparesis".
