hyphen-preposition question

Are these correct ?

1. two half-carriage domain (tech)
describing a domain consisting of two half-carriages

2. analysis of fluid flow in the underfloor region (below train region) (at) or (of ) a train

Which preposition is correct ?
I prefer at, as underfloor space can not belong to a train

Top answer

1-- two half-carriage domain s 2-- Your reasoning is correct, but your preposition is wrong. It is the underfloor area of a train (rather than of a bus or a building). 'Of' does not simply represent possession, but has several uses, as in 'part of'.

1. It's about one domain with two half-carriages... I wouldn't form such a compound, it's rather vague, sounds akward and is very likely to be misunderstood. There may exist another name for that: try searching technical English dictionaries.

thanx,

Of the second one, I gotta have ear a bit, but the first compund word is such boredom and I can't simply avoid usage.
This is actually seen as one domain, a bit confused about "s" at the end,

two half-carriages -> this is clear
two half-carriage domains -> strange as domain is single

two half-wheel earrings -> that's common, but that means a pa

QUOTE: two half-carriage domains -> strange as domain is single

No, TWO domains is plural.

Couldn't it be something like "a two half-carriage domain"? A domain with two half-carriages?

ciao pieanne,

your solution is pretty elegant
"a two half-carriage domain"
everything in between "a <-> domain" is kinda adjectives.
sounds akwardly, especially if i have to repeat many times in article...
I gonna cope ..

thanx
