Hyphen after 'marginal"

Hello,

Is it ok to hyphen after "marginal"?

For example

the marginal gain investments.
the marginal-gain investments.

It can be investments with marginal gains but I want to know if you need a hyphen if we write it this way.

Second,
Are thrre some words you should not hyphen after? Like those ending in "ly"?
Are words ending in "al" also not hyphenated?

Thank you.
