Hello.Today I ran into a word which I cannot find in any dictionary.The word is 'HYPERMEDIATED.'But it appears in which the book I read and on the internet.The senetence is:Digital art may be highly realistic or HYPERMEDIATED: it may be an image that was generated entirely in the digital domain, or it may contain elements from other media that have been scanned in and modified.What does the word 'HYPERMEDIATED' mean?Thank you.

I seems to me the sentence you quoted contains the definition. "Hyper" means excessively. The author is using and has probably coined "mediated" to mean affected by other media. So "hypermediated" means excessively affected by other media.

Given the context, this entry from a small dictionary, COD10, might help hypermedia
· n. Computing an extension to hypertext providing multimedia facilities, such as sound and video.
It is common in English to use nouns as verbs. In this case, one might guess that "to hypermediate" art would mean to place it in a context of hypertext or something similar.
The SOED5 entry for "hypermedia" has this explanation. Computing. A method of structuring information in different media for presentation to a user (usu. via a workstation) whereby related items of information are interconnected. Cf. HYPERTEXT.
It is easy to see that digital art might be so treated and so be "hypermediated."
Its an ugly word for a sloppy 'idea' passed off as a deep thought.

I go to Onelook.com for words I suspect might not be in a dictionary. It has no entry for "hypermediated." So I checked as a wild-card search, and it did show "hypermedia" in many dictionaries, such as the Concise Oxford:
hypermedia
noun Computing
an extension to hypertext providing multimedia
facilities, such as sound and video.
The origin of the word would be in parallel to "hyper-text," "hyper-media." Text or media in the internet environment.

Checking the Web, I see 900 hits for "hypermediated." An immediate definition did not leap to hand, but it seems to relate to using mixed media (text, graphics, sound, etc) in one piece of work. Something like what is called "multi-media presentation." Here's one site:
