hypercorrect
incorrectly correct

Do both have same meaning? Thank you.

Kelly Tan Do both have same meaning? Insofar as the second one can be understood at all, I'd say the meanings are different, at least where grammar is concerned. "hypercorrect" is the description of a mistake made by someone who believes he has followed the rules of correct grammar and has not made a mistake.

Thank you CJ.

Incorrectly correct means the person corrects what he thinks is a mistake when it is ok. He replaces it with what he thinks is correct and causes an error instead.

If the result is an error, I don't see why you call it (incorrectly) correct. It seems to me that it's incorrect even if it was thought to be correct.

In any case, your description is about the same as 'hypercorrect', which is what you wanted to know.

The grammar may be possible, but the meaning is too murky to be useful. It's like saying "badly good" or "sadly happy". One doesn't know what meaning to assign to such odd combinations of words.
Kelly TanI am correct. It means hypercorrect.

Hi CJ,

I believe you see incorrectly correct as adverb and adjective. I use them as adverb and verb.

Does my phrase make sense after my explanation?

Thank you.
