"husband and wife" or "wife and husband"

Hi there,

I've discovered that there's a tendency to speak of "husband and wife" rather than "wife and husband". Can you tell me why that is the case?

Hi, I wpuld guess that it is a relic from earlier times when the husband was considered to be the most important one in the fanily, the head of the family. As you probably know, some countries and cultures now consider husbamd and wife to be equals, but other countries and cultures still hold the earlier attitude. Best wishes, Clive
