Hurt "the" other party emotionally

Deadlines and time limits are often used to hurt the other party emotionally.

Hello, I am wondering what is the use of the determiner "the" in that sentence specifically.

When I looked up the Cambridge dictionary, I couldn't find the usage that matches the meaning.

( "used before a https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/singular https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/noun to refer to all the things or https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/peoplehttps://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/represent by that https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/noun:"

-> Maybe it is the one? )

So in the sentence it means the same as "other parties" right?

Thank you!

The use of "the" indicates that the person (or thing) can be uniquely identified. There is no one else (or anything else) it can be.

It sounds like this is being said about a couple. One person is hurting someone else. In a couple this "someone" has to be the other party. There is no one else in the story except those two people.
