If I say, "A lion hunted Bob", how would you read it?

I would read as, "A lion chased and killed Bob".

Please help me.

Not necessarily captured yet. If I read "Bob has been hunted down" it would conjure up an image of Bob struggling to release himself from the tenacious grip of the hunter.

"Hunting" does not inevitably mean killed. Hunting is the process by which the prey is tracked and followed. In many cases the prey will escape.

The lion hunted Bob >> The lion tracked and followed Bob
The lion hunted Bob, but he climbed a tree and escaped
The lion hunted Bob, and finally caught and killed him.
