Can I say,

(a) Some of the pupils hung / hung up balloons, blew up the balloons.

(b) Some blew up the balloons, hung up balloons and decorated the classroom with ribbons by working hand-by-hand.

Some blew up the balloons, hung them up, and decorated the classroom with ribbons. (The last part, which I deleted, makes no sense to me.)
