humpfing a humpf

I'd like to ask you what is the meaning of the phrase - humpfing a "humpf" - in the sentence below. (Horton animation-subtitle)

' Then humpfing a "humpf" was a sour Kangaroo the type who's convinced she she knows better than you.'

Thank you for help

Hi Pongrac, welcome to English Forums. This doesn't ring much of a bell with me, other than the old comic strips. Seems like "humpf" was what some stuffy old codger would say when someone did or said something of which he highly disapproved.

Hi Pongrac, welcome to English Forums.

This doesn't ring much of a bell with me, other than the old comic strips. Seems like "humpf" was what some stuffy old codger would say when someone did or said something of which he highly disapproved. "Humpfing a humpf" would be like "caughing a caugh," or "sneezing a sneeze."

Best wishes, - A.
