First of all, Looking for the meaning of a word in a dictionary would help you more to remember it, try it and you'll see the result!

And secondly, we hummed = sang the tune with our lips closed, with the original song that we were listening to.

i got the meaning thanks.....

ofcourse,i first look up the words in my dictionary but sometimes it doesn't have the word..and even if it has ,i can find out the right meaning of it in the sentence so i have to ask here to make sure and i cann tell it was a good help for me,cos i don't have a teacher to help me i am doing it on my own.

There are several online dictionaries as well, that you can look up your words in. It's true that sometimes you cannot get the meaning of a sentence bu looking up all its words, and sometimes you cannot guess which sense the sentence refers to. However, it would be better if sometimes you mention your guess and ask for confirmation. Don't be embarressed if so
