Human population

Hi,

Does '' human population'' take the preposition ''the'' in a general context?

E.g. ''Only a minority of (the) human population has the mutated gene.''

Thanks

Top answer

g. ''Thanks Two things: 1) "The" is not a preposition. 2) Only a small number of the human population has the mutated gene.

  • g.
  • ''Thanks Two things: 1) "The" is not a preposition.
  • 2) Only a small number of the human population has the mutated gene.
  • Minority - is not the correct word based on the context.
  • But you can reword it: People with the mutated gene are believed only confined to a small minority.

Thank you for your reply, but I found an article which says ''Only a minority of Americans think...'' and then a forum thread where a native American speaker says ''Only a small minority of students are interested in politics these days.''. Could you please clarify why my sentence was incorrect?

Thanks

I am not going to comment on how others use the word "minority". But in your sentence, minority -generally meant a small group of people with something in common. I commented on your sentence based on how it sounds to my ear. I didn't say the sentence was wrong, but I did feel that minority wasn't the choice from the flow and sound perspective, to me anyway. Also take a look on the definition on "
