The context is as follows:

Urban planners will contribute their knowledge on ways to transform human infrastructure and the built environment so that they enjoy a high quality of life while keeping ecological demand within the available resource budget.

Ugh. I consider this to be quite overwrought.

I can only guess that it means "how people build their communities."

I have no idea what "the built environment" means either, nor what the writer meant by "ecological demand."

I'm always puzzled when people think writing this way makes them sound more educated. The goal of writing something is to communicate meaning. The wr
