How's the sentence "I have known him since ten years ago." ungrammatical?

In the dictionary, I found the sentence above less grammatical but at least common in daily conversation.
How  is the sentence "I have known him since ten years ago." ungrammatical?

Whiton I have known him since ten years ago. I would call this sentence grammatical but unidiomatic because native speakers would say for ten years . CJ
