[/nq] Well, it's not surprising, when the numbers of movies being produced are going down that the numbers of screenwriters who have movies produced is likewise going down, that it's becoming a progressively more competitive market, that Hollywood, which has been much more corporately controlled in recent years and becoming more so in more recent years, which means more conservative in terms of its risk-taking strategies (especially given how its strategy has also been toward concentrating its resources into fewer and more expensive movies), it isn't surprising that there is tendency for them to focus on screenwriters with a tried and true track record (which means they've written a certain number of movies that have shown a profit nobody only makes hits) than taking risks on writers with shorter or, ***-forbid, no track record.

  • It's occured to me as I've looked back over my "pitching" history, that very often, when I look at when I've failed and at who has succeeded it's very frequently somebody who has just had a big movie released.
  • Now maybe that isn't always the dispositive reason, but I think we'd all be kidding ourselves if the decisions involved are being made strictly on the grounds of the aesthetics of story.
