However+dependent clause

if you come to the point where a dependent clause and a word like however needs to be used, do you us 1 or 2 commas?

For instance

However, if you buy that pie,

OR
However if you buy that pie,

'However' is not a part of 'if', so use comma to separate them.

Of course, you may change the wording for 'if-clause' to avoid one comma in the sentence.

Ex: However, you will not have to eat dinner with us if you buy that pie.
