So it's got nothing to do with - as I called it - "receiving psychic impulses".
How our bodies were designed to be able to receive psychic impulses or to develop psychic abilities?
But "supernatural universe" is also fine methinks

I was only referring to the incredible adaptations that enable a species to thrive in unusual (to us, anyway) environments. I suppose if the world changed (slowly enough) from a physical one to a metaphysical one, evolution would keep pace and the surviving species would have honed psychic senses.
