How would you describe somebody that is going to a risky and mysterious journey or war that will return home at an unknown date or might not be return home?

Hello, busyandy,

I'd say that our vocabulary was 'developed' before started learning English. So, I'm looking up words and expressions I already know in my native language. If my vocabulary is not so rich I will try to improve it by reading something different than I usually read.
