How would you describe it?

Imagine that there is a bowl which you cooked an oily soup, and you left it in a sink. After that someone put a plate in the bowl.

'The oily thing gets on the plate.'
'The plate gets the oily thing.'
'The oily thing stains on the plate'

Are they correct to describe it? How would you describe it?
